That Time of the Year Again: Philippine Christmas 2012

Araneta and Coca-Cola's Giant Christmas Tree

For 31 years, it has been the tradition of the Araneta Center in Cubao to light up its towering Christmas tree to signal the start of the Holidays. This year 2012, the celebration started on November 9 Friday with Araneta teaming up with Coca-Cola.

During my childhood days, I remember almost every household in our community having a Christmas ornament outside the house, a "parol" or Christmas lights. As years went by, less and less decors are put up by individual houses, perhaps partly because of the hard times. Austerity called for minimizing electricity bills. Hence, most people would rather bring their children to commercial places where Christmas decors are still a joy to view, and for free!
